Tips for Attending A College Fair

If you have never been to a college fair before, here is what you can expect:

Rows of college tables, staffed by representatives to answer your questions and take your name and address so they can send you materials after the fair.

If you research colleges before attending the fair, you will know which college tables to go to and should have questions ready for the representatives. If you do not do any research before the fair or if you are having a hard time figuring out which colleges are your best choices, you have a few options:

  • Visit as many college tables, collect information and give representatives your name and address for their follow-up.
  • Speak with an advisor in the one-to-one counseling area and get some suggestions. For example, an advisor will help you develop a list of colleges at the fair which offer the major(s) of interest to you. You will also learn about combined degree programs in which you can earn both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master's degree in four or four and a half years. Colleges offering these options will have representatives available to answer your questions.

Workshops on Financial Aid

Make sure you attend one of these workshops. There is no mystery to applying for financial aid, but there are important facts and deadlines to know for getting money to pay for your education. You are the one going to college, not your parents or guardians, so do not leave it to them to get this important information for you.

One-to-One Counseling

This is your opportunity to speak privately with an experienced counselor, to ask questions, and to get advice about the college admissions process.

You will also have an opportunity to enter a scholarship raffle that could win you $1,000 toward your college expenses. To enter, complete your raffle postcard, either received by mail or at the site. Drop your raffle card in the designated box near the exit of each fair.
